Kafana Brka

Not far from Niš (about 12 km), on the way to the Suva Mountain and Bojanine vode, in the village of Jelašnica, located and ambientally ornamented in ethno style, with checkered table-cloths and curtains, built in stone, a small kafana "Brka" can offer various meraklija's joys (as mentioned before, meraklija is a Serbian word for a person who enjoys life).

Having local cuisine specialties such as stuffed dry paprikas (or as said in Serbian 'butane šušpe'), stuffed grapevine leaves (or 'sarmice u vinovom listu'), twisted pie ('sukana pita') and the rest of the meals up their sleeve (for the whole meal-list you need to be regular guests) Brka's dining table can definitely be a desirable destination, both for business and for family gatherings.

First of all, the family tradition of the owner offers the ambience whose charms it is impossible to resist. Home-made white and red wine from Jelašnica nad Sićevo region, sheep and other cheeses from the hillsides of the Suva Mountain, mućkalica (various sorts of vegetables mixed with meat), smoked and dry meats...  simply, an idyllic sense which can only be offered by this and similar kafanas.

Kafana's capacity is mainly full so a reservation is required, especially over the weekend, sometimes even a few days ahead, which certainly speaks for itself about the quality of this kafana's offer.

The owner of the kafana, Brka (Sveta) (Brka is his nickname since he has moustache, Sveta is his first name actually), will always welcome you in person, and sit with you as a true host, whether you are a new or a regular guest, all of this gives the kafana a specific 'zing'.

If you have or do not have a free weekend, if you are from Niš or not, this is definitely the ambience, service and 'mezetluk' (a kind of snack which usually includes cheese, salads, and a shot of rakija of course) we recommend.
